Before and After Care Programs

We offer five before and after school programs serving a total of 378 children in the Albany Unified School District.

The Cedar’s before and after school program is K-1 at Ocean View Elementary, which focuses on Art and Literacy. The children review literature, study the author and then immerse themselves in art, based on what the book uses for illustration. Cedar also has a reading program, journal writing, dictation, and book reviews. They do organized sports (tennis), computers, games and planned nature walks frequently.

We have two Chinese language programs K-5, located at Ocean View Elementary and Cornell Elementary. The children learn simplified Mandarin. The Chinese programs will cover curriculum such as numbers, greetings, fruits, family and basic mandarin terms and skills.

In the UC Village Community Center we have the Maples after school program K-3. The curriculum focus is Science and Social Studies. Examples of the activities at Maples are; the study of Mexico, Earth Day, Pacific Flyway/ Migration of the Canadian geese and map work. They have snakes, spiders, silk worms, walking sticks and rats. They also recognize holidays such as, Ramadan, Ganesh Chaturdhi, Patriot Day, Hispanic Heritage day, Mexican Independence Day, First day of fall, Rosh Hashanah, and Eid-Al-Fitr. The do journals, have ice cream sales and fun Friday’s.

At Marin Elementary we have our Tupelo/Spanish program, K-3 our largest after school program. They have activities such as, paper mache work, knitting, friendship bracelets and cooking projects (green eggs and ham). The Spanish program studies vocabulary words and simple phrases, such as: what’s the date today? What is your name? Hello, goodbye, fine, please, thank you and much more.
